A visit to our good friends’ house always means fun and curious things to photograph as well as good food. The event today was beer-making and as the group tended the contraptions that turn sugar water and hops into beer, I spent my time wandering and looking for iPhone photos . I did shoot some photos of the process and learned it takes between seven to twelve days to make five gallons of beer.In the hot sun ,and fighting the total insect population of Shelby County, it was the baby-sized Airstream with the requisite pink flamingoes standing guard that provided inspiration. The plastic birds and their reflections on the polished metal surface intrigued me.
My new friends Snapseed and Toaster helped me create twelve too many versions. As an act of restraint, I am using one.
Any feedback, or trade secrets that will help me improve would be greatly appreciated. Learning from comments and suggestions is much easier and interesting than books or instructions. These words come from the mouth of a teacher.

I think sticking to one particular style is good because it shows that you have thought about each particular image and you then know why it works, the more photos you take in that style.
I used to do lots of photos in different styles but the problems i had was that when it came down to choosing a set non of them worked together.
I see you like to shoot abandoned places, i was just wondering is that caravan abandoned, if so i would love to see the inside. Im hoping its torn up seats, empty tin cans, rusted pots etc.
I really like the filter you have used gives it that retro 70s look.
Yes i love the reflection of that reflection, wonder what it would look like as a photo on its own.

I think you’re right. I love Black and white and color for different kinds of images.I love the old torn up stuff, things with age, unexpected photos, abstracts, loving them doesn’t mean I have to work with all of them. How did you decide on a style when many things spoke to you?

Well i have just gotten into doing triptics which is shooting three images that are different. But represent the same topic so that they work together.
I mean you could do one straight image of the caravan (main pic) and three images of the inside. Okay thats four images, but it works nicely as a photo essay.
When photographing derelict places,or old stuff i use macro lens, this is good for showing detail and texture of how things become when left for a long time.
Hope this helps 😉

I’m off on a road trip this weekend and I think you have a great idea. I ‘ll be looking for images to put together. Hopefully, after I return there’ll be more abandoned pieces. One of the towns we’re visiting has decreased in population from 47,000 to 2,700. Photos I’ve seen include movie theaters from the 1920’s and an empty downtown.Thank you for being so helpful!

The airstream is used for holidays. My friend has 2 of them and this one has 60’s decor.I”m going to play with the reflections. Thank you for taking the time to give useful feedback. I appreciate it.

Sometimes I need to pay more attention to where I wander, but it’s worth it.
