My class and I have been learning about innovation and problem-solving strategies. One of the most effective methods is to look at things in a new way. You might turn something upside-down or turn yourself upside down. Somedays you just need a fresh way of seeing, like Proust’s comment about new eyes. Sometimes you need to take a breath and imagine what another person is feeling and thinking. Whenever I find myself feeling disconnected and/or insensitive, this photograph reminds me to take another view, to notice the beauty I might be missing.Just as dawn broke and I shot this photo, I saw the beauty in an area which looks dull and repetitive from the highway.I had totally missed the bigger picture.

I’ve only ever done one balloon trip, but I love it – the peace and tranquility was amazing.

I couldn’t get over that there was no sensation of movement. I was terrified because I’m afraid of heights, but I’d do it again any day.

I’ve been following you for a few months now, enjoying your posts. Chuckled when I read the title of your post today, because I too wrote about perspective just this week… http://sarahsimsphotography.wordpress.com/2012/09/10/a-matter-of-perspective/
Slightly different angle, but similar underlying message.

Thank you! Sometimes with all the craziness it’s easy to lose it.

Stunning image
) It usually pays dividends to look at things from other angles than the norm, as you say we then see the beauty we may well have overlooked during other times.

How did you ever capture this shot?
September 13th, 2012 at 7:49 pm
From an early morning hot air balloon ride that I shared with my son for his 21st birthday. I can’t wait to try it again.

Thank you so much. I really loved your photo so things are meant to work out.

Wow! The contrast of the colored balloons with the monochrome landscape is fantastic. The composition is very dynamic and the inclusion of the pastel sky completes the image. Very compelling image…

Thank you! No post processing , because the early morning light was so incredible.
September 14th, 2012 at 2:29 am

September 14th, 2012 at 4:44 pm
Thank you so much. It was a once in a lifetime ride and I was hanging out the side of the balloon shooting as fast as I could.

Lovely shot. I guess missing the big picture occasionally is no bad thing as long as we realise that we’ve done exactly that! Thanks for the thoughts.
September 16th, 2012 at 4:17 pm
Thank you for visiting and taking the time to comment. I think I miss the big picture more than I’d like to admit. So often I’ll shoot the details on a house and realize that I never took a shot of the structure as a whole

Beautiful, beautiful image. We used to sing a song when my sisters and I were little about looking at the world upside down. I remember it had a swingy beat and always made me think of pumping high into the sky on a swingset and leaning far backwards as you swoop down toward the ground.
September 16th, 2012 at 4:19 pm
Thank you! I used to love going high up on swings. Haven’t done that in too long! Thanks for your visit!

Nice – love the soft pastel colours of the sky. If that had been anymore powerful, it would have detracted from the vibrant balloons.
September 17th, 2012 at 3:27 pm
It was an incredible morning and fortunately nature took over.
September 17th, 2012 at 8:26 pm
Lovely contrast of colorful balloon and sombre landscape, with the thread of river and fog.

Thank you for taking time to comment and for visiting my blog.

love the almost monochrome quality punctured by the bright colored balloons…the contrast works very well here !
